Buckle up and get your napkin(s) ready.

A Foodie Roadie - Middle Mainland

OK so a few weeks back I started a wee Foodie Roadie thing, promising to head from the bottom of our beautiful motu, to the top. With Father’s Day coming up this weekend, what better time to plop a couple epic little, local Foodies on your radar - not to mention from some epic ‘short weekend away’ spots! We’re heading to Tekapo, Haast and Hokitika.

Buckle up and get your napkin(s) ready.

We’re starting in Tekapo - at Dolce Pizza

“Welcome to Dolce Pizza! Come and try our delicious wood fired pizzas.”

Topped not even by that shockingly beautiful blue lake (a clear, uninterrupted, open-air view of which is 90 degrees to your right of ordering), Dolce Pizza delivers your simple classics like Kiwi Classic (Cranberry Sauce, Mozzarella, Chicken Breast & Brie), Margherita, Meat Lovers & Vegetarian but from their incredible wood-fired oven.. You can taste the eip experience from wherever you get the scroll on.

Why did I write this post just before bed time, sigh.

You'll find Dolce Pizza here.

Now we ahead across the Island to Crêpe & Snow in Haast (note - reopening 14th September 2024)

“Crêpe and Shaved ice Caravan with Gluten Free/Vegan options on request”

Raw sugar, Jam, Caramel, Nutella, Banana - or a Savoury Cheese? How do you Crêpe?

Wash it down with a Shaved Ice to have you vibing the local Glaciers and you won’t be able to stop smiling just like the lovely Apolline - owner/operator of this magnificently reviewed wee treasure of a spot open seasonally in breathtaking Haast.

And finally - up the Coast to my childhood town of Hokitika and Bespoke Cafe

“SUPERB coffee & delicious home made food in our delightful surroundings at the Glory Days hub

If your dad is an Athletic Beast - he might be partial to a spot of Keto or fat & protein loading - Bespoke is your place. Thursdays are Keto Scroll day and I can never look because it makes me wanna skip work, head to the Coast and think I need not feel guilty about it. After I’d had a scroll I’d top it off with a gluten, egg and dairy free chocolate cake, one of those SUPERB coffees, and perhaps a wee Keto Cheesecake or a “normal” carrot cake for good measure. Hokitika is the perfect place for dads with biking, fishing, chill vibes - and as I say epic kai.

Aaaand pick up your chin - make some plans to get on the road with Dad and find your way to his heart the way we all know is the best - through his tummy.

Heading to Southland? Check out what's on offer there at this post.

Find these and other epic little, local food eateries by checking out the “Food/Snacks” category on Passmebuy.
